Clarendon Hills student wins French scholarship from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

URBANA—Rebecca Nevers of Clarendon Hills, Ill., recently received a Charlotte Kambarian McMillan Scholarship from the Department of French at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Three McMillan Scholarships are awarded each year. Each McMillan Scholarship is worth $1000 for each student of superior achievement.

The McMillan Scholarships are named for Charlotte Kambarian McMillan (1925-1995) and were established in 1997 by her husband, Fred (1926-2002) and her son, Dr. John McMillan, a UIUC alumnus who resides in Prairie Village, Kan.

Charlotte attended UIUC in 1948 and retired as a high school French teacher at Springfield High School in Springfield, Ill.

Fred McMillan (1926-2002) retired from Central Illinois Public Service
Company as land and right-of-way supervisor.

Their son received bachelors and master’s degrees from UIUC in 1974 and 1976. He currently works as a diagnostic radiologist in Prairie Village, Kan.
