Oakwood man wins 2005-2006 LAS Staff
Award from the University of Illinois
URBANA, Ill.—Tim Cunningham of Oakwood, Ill., was recently named a recipient of a 2005-2006 LAS Staff Award for his outstanding contribution to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Cunningham is a Specialist II for LAN (Local Area Network) support, a position in which he has served since 2001. Cunningham is responsible for assisting with desktop support issues along with any network connection problems for all faculty and staff among 11 academic departments in the university’s Foreign Languages Building.
“Tim attends to all our diverse needs on our widely varying platforms,” commented Doug Kibbee, Executive Coordinator of the Foreign Languages Building Units. “He is inventive and resourceful, and his work is far beyond the call of duty.”
All recipients receive a $2000 award and a commemorative plaque. Both will be presented at an LAS awards reception scheduled to take place on campus in late February.
Nominations are evaluated in terms of achievement according to the following established criteria:
1. Excellence in overall work performance.
2. Promotes positive morale through a congenial, supportive attitude and by providing service to others.
3. Puts forth an effort to improve self as well as to develop and recognize others.
4. Exhibits initiative and creativity resulting in improved operating efficiency of a work unit or the college as a whole.
5. Enhances the image of the department and/or college.
A nominee must be a full-time staff employed within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for at least three years by the nomination deadline.
In 1993, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences established the LAS Staff Awards to identify and honor selected staff members for their outstanding contributions to the college. The program is sponsored by alumni and friends of the college. Up to three awards may be made annually.
