Homer, the Trojan Cycle, and the movie "Troy"

Jon Solomon, professor of classics at the University of Arizona, will present a lecture entitled, “Homer, the Trojan Cycle, and the Movie ‘Troy’,” on Monday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m., in the Music Room of the Levis Faculty Center, 919 W. Illinois, Urbana.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

In his lecture Professor Solomon will trace the history of the Troy-myth and its tradition from pre-Homer to the present, bringing in observations about the meaning and significance of authenticity in popular film. The lecture should be of interest to both scholars and film-lovers alike.

A leading expert on Ancient Greek musical theory, Greek Mythology, and the Classical Tradition, Solomon has published widely on the representation of the ancient world in European opera, in television, and in film.

The lecture is sponsored by the UIUC Department of Classics.
