Creole quartet to perform at UI December 6

The Morris Ardoin Creole Quartet with Dennis Stroughmatt will present a performance of Canjun and Creole music on Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 8-9:30 p.m., in Room 314A, Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana.

The performance, co-sponsored by the U. of I. Department of French and the Champaign-Urbana Traditional Music and Dance group, is free and open to the public.

Featuring Morris Ardoin on vocals and accordion and Dennis Stroughmatt on fiddle and vocals, the Morris Ardoin Creole Quartet plays traditional Cajun and Creole music. Based in Eunice, Louisiana, the Ardoin family has a long tradition in the roots of modern Cajun, African Creole, and Zydeco Music. Morris, who has been a respected and sought after musician for over 60 years, carries on the tradition of his family.

This group has entertained audiences throughout the U.S., as well as Belgium, France, Holland, England, Germany, Canada, and Switzerland. The quartet also has performed at The National Folk Festival, The New Orleans Jazz Fest, Festivals Acadians (LA), The Clear Water Folk Festival (New York), and The Newport Folk Festival (Rhode Island).
